There are talented DJs across the globe and Chicago certainly has no shortage. However, in today’s market it takes a lot more than talent to stand out. I can’t tell you how many DJs have come up to me over the years saying; “When are you going to put me on.” My answer; “What are you going to bring to the event?” They then say “I’m gonna rock the party!” I respond; “and what else?” Then they often look puzzled and reply “What do you mean?” And that is the problem. There was a time when the latest hits were heard in the club before anywhere else. The “music of the streets” was the music in the clubs. Today people are mostly guided more by radio and music videos but why is that? As DJs we have this rare opportunity to make a huge impact on our audiences but we often don’t take advantage of this anymore. Instead, we play it “safe” with known club bangers and classics. The coolest thing about text message marketing is that just a few years ago I couldn’t have written this article because the concept didn’t even exist. As technology continues to develop, so do the ways in which we use it.  Today, many people have unlimited text plans on their cell phones and in many cases actually like getting text updates and event info.
